Home Nuts and Bolts THE PLATFORM YOUR INPUT HOW ARE WE DOING
WHAT YOU NEED

A GROUP... Two people or two thousand.
AGREEMENT... on reform.
KNOWLEDGE... of the history of potential candidates.
A PLATFORM... that is agreeable to the group.
A PLAN... to inform the voters
NOMINATING PETITIONS... turned in by June 7.Petition forms can be had by contacting the Division of Elections at (609)-292-3760 or at their office at 44 South Clinton Ave, 4th floor, Trenton. Assembly petitions require 100 signatures, Governor petitions require 800 signatures. C'mon, pick a good candidate, get the signatures in a couple of hours, and Bye-Bye corruption.

Just getting good candidates on the ballot is a giant step in informing the two major parties that their history of bad government is at an end.

A WORD OF CAUTION... Lots of people would like to be a government official. Being in a hurry or not researching potential candidates thoroughly, so that the candidate turns out to be unelectable, is harmful to the cause of reform. Be careful.

KNOW THE CANDIDATE

A sample questionaire for potential nominees.

Name?
Address?
Age?
U.S. citizen?
Criminal record?
How long living in this district?
Party affiliation?
Elected or appointed public offices held?
Active in major or minor parties?
Member of any group or organization that interacts with
government on civic or social issues?
Own or work for any organization that does business with
government or related to anyone who owns or works for
such an organization?
Member or supporter of any group or organization that
advocates or lobbies government?
Willing to run on reform ticket?
Willing to follow reform platform endorsed by trhe group?
Any other information that bears on possible candidacy?

The group can decide whether any of the answers to these and other questions either qualify or diaqualify a potential candidate. Should a person fall into a certain group that interacts with government, teacher, developer, government worker, industry which performs government work, etc, the group will have to decide whether that person will be able to set aside personal agendas to fulfill the requirements of reform. Perhaps a promise to excuse themselves from any votes that impact themselves or their particular interest group would be acceptable. Once again, it's imperative that the group has a good knowledge of the candidate.

When you have approved a platform and selected a candidate for every slot,(remember those freeholders, mayors, and town council seats), make sure you have the appropriate nominating petition forms, the local and county offices should be available at the county administration building, also be aware that the state requires a disclosure form for investigation of past criminal record which must be signed by the candidate.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE ANY MONEY OR SUPPORT FROM ANYONE TO WHOM YOU WILL OWE FAVORS IF THE REFORM SLATE WINS.
